iconSummary of Changes for LPIC-1:

The anticipated publish date for new versions of LPI 101 and 102 exams is July 2, 2012. These small changes to the detailed objectives of LPIC-1 include:

  • Explicit coverage at the basic configuration level of GRUB 2.
  • Explicit coverage of the ext4 filesystem.
  • Basic feature knowledge of systemd and Upstart.
  • Basic feature knowledge of IPv6 and LVM.
  • Removal of LILO coverage.

As GeeGo's Linux professional technical consultant, Ben says "IPv6 is the important update in IT industries, and it becomes one of the basic knowledge for IT workers. The denouncing system starting speed has been improved, we can follow up from removing LILO and adding GRUB 2, systemd and Upstart. ext4 file system and LVM are new techniques that reflect the trends in nowadays stroage capacity have grew up substantially." The LPIC-1 revises quite properly, in line with the current changes in the IT industry to make changes. We are looking gladly for these revision publishing soon.

Impact to Courseware Developers:
Based on feedback from volunteers working in the publishing and training material industry, we anticipate the overall impact for updating LPIC-1 material will be minimal. It is anticipated that most courseware and book authors should be able to implement these changes in a matter of a few weeks.
