The difference from Ubuntu and Debian is that the former is released every six months and every released edition supports eighteen months.
◎ Ubuntu’s objective
Ubuntu is developed for making PC easily used as well as providing server edition toward enterprise application. Every Ubuntu’s new edition comprises latest GNOME and it is usually released one month after the latest GNOME releasing. Compared to other Debian released editions, such as MEPIS, Xandros, Linspire, Progeny and Libanet, the development purpose of Ubuntu is much closer to the one of Debian because Ubuntu’s released edition mainly uses free and open source software.

Ubuntu strongly emphasizes system security. The most significant feature is that all system-related works have to use Sudo command. It is much safer than the traditional manner of administrating system by administrator’s account. Ubuntu also focuses on its easy usage. Generally it can work after standard installation, i.e. users don’t have to additionally install explorer, office and media application as well as download NIC and sound card driver.
Ubuntu concentrates on internationalization and its easy usage in achieving popularization. As v5.04 released, Ubuntu has integrated UTF-8 Unicode into its system default encoding in responding different languages in different countries as well as providing a sharing platform without unreadable characters for users.
All Ubuntu editions are free. In addition to downloading CD Image, users can also obtain free installation CD through mail service.
